Rock On | health wellness and rocking chairs

As a healthcare professional with a specialty in mental health, it has come to my attention the power of rocking in a rocking chair beyond the mental health arena. Rocking being a mild form of exercise and a de-stressor doesn’t hurt!

According to Dr. Heinrich Addleheim of the Kinetic Therapy Clinic in Berlin, Germany, the   Rocking Chair Therapy An apple a day the rocking chair way… “We’ve seen cases of patients recuperating from heart attack and stroke – without any trace of permanent damage – simply because they used a rocking chair while they were recovering. I’ve seen people bedridden with arthritis who were up and around inside a week after regular use of rocking chair. . . it’s not just a piece of furniture; it’s a remarkable medical device.”

Saturday, May 10, 2014, We Survive’s Haven of Hope and the Sullivan University College of Pharmacy's SSHP chapter presented ROCK-A-THON.  These two organizations joined together to raise awareness of the importance of taking care of your mental health.   With an added health and wellness benefit--Rocking.

ROCK-A-THON provided information to the public regarding the connection between mental health to overall health and well being.  Teams were rocking so that We Survive and Sullivan University College of Pharmacy's SSHP chapter can continue to spread the word about the importance of mental health and further educate the community through health fairs and other events.
